A Taste of what we've done this year...
Apr. 4th 2012: Celebrating Pesach
The classes learned about the story of Pesach while watching a musical-puppet film about the story of Pesach. The students loved this film and it allowed them to find entertainment in the story. After learning about the story and answering some questions each student created their own Seder Plates which we will laminate for families to use the following year!

Mar. 28th 2012: Different Types of Judaism
Today we had the opportunity to think about how different groups of people choose to identify with the same religion in different ways. For example how some believe the Torah is true to its word, while other believe it is an interpretation. The classes discussed the importance of making your religion YOURS so it feels right within your environment. At the end of class we were lucky enough to have a guest musician teach some interactive songs like "Dayeinu."

Mar. 21st 2012: Jewish Food Ethics
This class we examined Jewish Law around food and the reasons behind them. We explored together what rules we would choose to make to ensure we are eating properly and in a way which considers the world around us. The class focused on eating locally and knowing what it in our food. An amazing opportunity to consider how we can apply Koshrut to our lives today in a relevant way!

Mar. 7th 2012: Filming our Purim "Sippur"
We've begun the filming of our Purim "Sippur," starring each of the students in different roles communicating the lessons we feel are important from the Jewish holiday, Purim. Both classes have been hard at work putting together different props and backdrops. We'll continue working on the film over the next few classes while we move on educationally to some new themes. We plan to share the film during our last class with everyone. We hope you enjoy it!

Feb. 22nd 2012: Learning the story of Purim
This week we spent some time reviewing the Hebrew words we've learn't and studying the story of Purim. Focusing on what stories can be learn't from our holidays the classes began designing and decorating the set and costumes for the Purim movie we will be filming next class. This movie will feature all the students and some of the staff as we outline what we see as the central points of Purim and highlight the lessons we hope to gain.

Feb. 8th 2012: Where does our food come from?
After last class's amazing exploration of Tu B'Shvat we're going to continue moving forward and take a look at where our food comes from. This session will give students an opportunity to examine what they know already and find out some new facts about our food system. In Judaism, one's relationship with food is very important and reflective of their morality- what are our priorities when we look at food? Is it important to know whats healthy for us?
A very important topic for all Jews to constantly revisit to keep us connected to what we're putting in our bodies.

Jan. 18th 2012: Exploring Tikkun Olam
A great hello to our community,
As we've seen from the entirety of the past year, there are ongoing movements and initiatives working to create a better reality. The emphasis on taking responsibility for our surroundings is a very Jewish value which we intend to explore together this Wednesday. The meaning of Tikkun Olam is an inherit love for our world and a commitment to always work to improve what is around us. This week we'll be discussing what we do to improve ourselves and what we do to improve the world around us!
